Chandigarh: The Centre Government has confirmed that Punjab Secures Full Fertilizer Supply for the upcoming kharif season 2026. This assurance ensures that farmers across the state will have access to adequate urea and DAP fertilizers without shortage.
The confirmation came after a communication sent by BJP Punjab President Keval Singh Dhillon to the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers on June 10, 2026. The ministry issued the official response on June 23, 2026 through Vandana Preyashi, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
Strong Supply Position Confirmed
According to official data, the Centre has allocated 11,45,000 metric tonnes of urea and 1,80,000 metric tonnes of DAP to Punjab. In addition, the Centre clarified that this supply is higher than the estimated seasonal requirement.
Officials also reported that the state currently holds a closing stock of 4,27,000 metric tonnes of urea and 98,000 metric tonnes of DAP. Therefore, the overall fertilizer availability remains stable and sufficient.
Farmers to Benefit in Kharif Season
The confirmation that Punjab Secures Full Fertilizer Supply will benefit farmers during the peak agricultural season. Furthermore, it will ensure timely availability of essential farming inputs.
The authorities stated that adequate stock will prevent shortages during critical sowing periods. As a result, farmers will experience smoother agricultural operations.
Political Concerns on Distribution
BJP Punjab President Keval Singh Dhillon welcomed the Centre’s assurance. However, he raised concerns about whether the state government will ensure proper distribution.
He questioned if fertilizers will reach all districts and blocks in a timely manner. In addition, he stressed the need for transparency in supply management.
Strict Action Against Hoarding
Dhillon warned that strict action must be taken against hoarding, black marketing, and overpricing. Moreover, he emphasized enforcement under the Fertilizer Control Order 1985 and Essential Commodities Act 1955.
He said the responsibility of fair distribution lies with the state authorities. Consequently, any failure in supply reaching farmers will be accountable to the administration.
Demand for Transparent Distribution System
The BJP leadership demanded that Punjab Secures Full Fertilizer Supply be implemented with full transparency across all 117 assembly constituencies. Additionally, they urged timely monitoring of distribution networks.
They highlighted that agriculture depends heavily on seasonal inputs. Therefore, efficient and fair distribution is essential for protecting farmers’ interests.
