Amritsar Court Sentences Man to 20 Years in POCSO Case

Amritsar – The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Amritsar (POCSO Court-cum-Special Trial Court), has sentenced an accused to 20 years of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹55,000 in a case of rape of a minor.

The convict, Bobby alias Babbi, son of Buta Singh, resident of Khushupura village in Amritsar district, was found guilty under FIR No. 140 dated 15.04.2024 registered under Sections 363, 366 of the IPC and Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act at Bhindi Saidan police station.

According to case details, on the night of April 12–13, 2024, the minor victim’s parents were sleeping when around 1–2 AM, the mother noticed that her daughter was missing. It was later revealed that the accused had lured the minor with a promise of marriage and taken her away. The accused was already married and had two minor children.

The prosecution stated that the accused repeatedly committed sexual assault against the victim. After examining the evidence, the court held him guilty and pronounced the sentence of 20 years imprisonment along with a fine of ₹55,000.

The court, while delivering the verdict, emphasized that such punishment sends a strong message to society to deter crimes against minors and ensure their protection.
