Amritsar Launches One City One Operator Sewer Project

One City One Operator Sewer Project Begins in Walled City

Amritsar (Simran Santosh Rajput): MLA Dr. Ajay Gupta on Wednesday launched the Amritsar One City One Operator Sewer Project to improve sewer management in the city’s Walled City area. The initiative aims to clean and desilt sewer lines before the arrival of the monsoon season and strengthen the city’s drainage infrastructure.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Gupta said authorities awarded a contract to a specialized company for sewer desilting in the Walled City and nearby wards. The company will deploy modern machinery and trained staff to carry out the work efficiently.

Project Aims to Prevent Monsoon Waterlogging

The Amritsar One City One Operator Sewer Project started ahead of the monsoon season to reduce the risk of water accumulation on roads and streets.

Dr. Gupta said workers will complete the entire sewer cleaning operation using machines. As a result, the project will improve drainage capacity and help prevent waterlogging during heavy rainfall.

Furthermore, authorities expect the initiative to improve sanitation conditions and enhance the overall urban infrastructure in the area.

Company to Provide Machinery and Workforce

Under the Amritsar One City One Operator Sewer Project, the selected company will provide all required machinery, equipment, and manpower.

Additionally, the company will operate continuously to ensure timely completion of the work. Officials expect the round-the-clock effort to speed up sewer cleaning and improve the efficiency of the drainage network.

Moreover, the mechanized approach will allow workers to clean sewer lines more effectively than traditional methods.

Municipal Corporation to Monitor Progress

Dr. Ajay Gupta said Municipal Corporation officials will closely supervise the project and monitor the company’s performance.

Furthermore, officials will inspect the sewer network regularly. If they identify any damaged or faulty sewer lines, they will replace them immediately to prevent future problems.

Consequently, authorities aim to create a stronger and more reliable drainage system for residents of the Walled City.

Sewage Treatment Plant Expansion Underway

The MLA also highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade sewer infrastructure across the city.

According to Dr. Gupta, the Punjab Government is rapidly increasing the capacity of the Khaparkheri Sewage Treatment Plant. He added that authorities expect to complete most of the expansion work by October.

As a result, the upgraded facility will improve wastewater management and support the growing needs of the city.

More Development Projects Planned for Walled City

Dr. Gupta said the Punjab Government has accelerated development activities in the Walled City after granting Amritsar the status of a holy city.

Moreover, authorities are beautifying four major roads leading to Sri Harmandir Sahib with a heritage-themed design. The government is also carrying out multiple development projects to improve civic amenities and public infrastructure.

In addition, officials have divided the city’s cleanliness campaign into three phases. Authorities have deployed a large number of machines to maintain sanitation standards across the Walled City.

AAP organization in-charge Harpreet Singh Ahluwalia, Dr. Sarthak Gupta, Tahir Shah, Jagtar Singh Jagga, Raman Kumar, Ritu Mahajan, Vishal Gill, and several party volunteers attended the launch event.
