Amritsar (Suraj Kamlesh): In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, Amritsar Police have busted an Amritsar heroin smuggling network and arrested four accused linked to the illegal trade. During the operation, police recovered 1.145 kilograms of heroin, ₹64,000 in drug money, an electronic weighing scale, and a scooter used in the crime.

Police Arrest Two Suspects During Operation
Acting on the directions of senior police officials, a team led by Kot Khalsa Police Post In-charge SI Davinder Singh launched a special operation in Amritsar.
During the operation, police intercepted two individuals traveling on an Activa scooter. Police identified the two accused as Danish alias Nannu and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopa.
Furthermore, officers conducted a search and recovered 1.145 kilograms of heroin from their possession. In addition, they seized ₹64,000 believed to be drug proceeds and an electronic weighing scale used for drug distribution.
As a result, police registered a case under the NDPS Act at Islamabad Police Station, Amritsar.
Investigation Reveals Jail-Based Drug Network
During questioning, investigators uncovered a larger Amritsar heroin smuggling network. The probe revealed that the operation was allegedly controlled by Kanwaljit Singh alias Kanwal, who is currently lodged in Central Jail Amritsar in connection with other NDPS cases.
According to police, Kanwaljit continued to manage the drug network from inside the jail. Investigators found that he coordinated the supply and distribution of heroin through his associates.
Consequently, police nominated him in the current case and formally arrested him in connection with the investigation.
Another Drug Supplier Arrested
Further investigation led police to another accused, Simranjit Singh alias Sabi from Batala. Officers alleged that he actively supplied heroin to members of the network.

Meanwhile, Simranjit Singh alias Sabi also has a previous NDPS case registered against him. However, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopa reportedly had no previous criminal record.
