Nagar Kirtan Held from Sri Akal Takht Sahib to Mark Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s Parkash Purab

Nagar Kirtan Marks Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Parkash Purab

On the occasion of the Parkash Purab of the Ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, a grand Nagar Kirtan was organized from Sri Akal Takht Sahib to the Guru’s birthplace, Gurdwara Guru Ke Mehal. A large number of devotees participated and paid homage with deep devotion and reverence.

The Nagar Kirtan witnessed the presence of prominent Sikh religious personalities, including Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib’s Additional Head Granthi Singh Sahib Giani Amarjit Singh, Sri Akal Takht Sahib Head Granthi Giani Malkiat Singh, Sri Darbar Sahib Manager S. Bhagwant Singh Dhangera, officials of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), and representatives of various religious societies.

During the procession, Gatka teams showcased traditional Sikh martial arts, while band groups added to the spiritual atmosphere with melodious performances, enhancing the grandeur of the Nagar Kirtan.

Addressing the congregation, Singh Sahib Giani Amarjit Singh extended greetings on the Parkash Purab and said that the life and martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji remain a timeless example of protecting religious freedom and righteousness. He urged devotees to follow the teachings and path shown by the Ninth Guru.

Providing details about upcoming events, Sri Darbar Sahib Manager S. Bhagwant Singh Dhangera informed that a Gurmat Samagam will be organized at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mehal on April 7, 2026, to mark the sacred occasion. The Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib will be held, followed by the exposition of Hukamnama and religious discourses by renowned Ragis and scholars.

Special illuminations will also be arranged at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai Sahib to commemorate the Parkash Purab celebrations.

The Nagar Kirtan commenced from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and passed through various city markets before concluding at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mehal. Several SGPC officials, including Manager S. Satnam Singh Riar, S. Jaspal Singh Dhadday, Additional Manager S. Iqbal Singh Mukhi, S. Gurvinder Singh Devidasapur, and S. Yuvraj Singh, along with a large gathering of devotees, were present on the occasion.
