Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday inaugurated development projects worth ₹28.68 crore during a public event in Jaito town of Faridkot district, combining major development announcements with sharp political attacks on opposition parties.
During the event, the Chief Minister announced the upgradation of the local Community Health Centre into a 30-bed hospital. He also unveiled significant investments aimed at improving clean drinking water facilities and strengthening sports infrastructure in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Mann linked the public mandate received in 2022 with the vision of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, stating that the dreams of the freedom fighter are now being translated into reality. He claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is transforming people’s lives through initiatives such as improved healthcare, education reforms, free electricity, and financial assistance schemes, while traditional political parties remained limited to promises.
Launching strong criticism against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal, Mann accused them of promoting nepotism and encouraging criminal elements. He also targeted the Central Government, holding it responsible for rising inflation and increasing economic hardships faced by citizens.
In a major announcement, the Chief Minister revealed that a special session of the Punjab Assembly will be convened on April 13, coinciding with the festival of Baisakhi, to introduce a strict anti-sacrilege law. The proposed legislation is expected to include punishment ranging from a minimum of 10 years’ imprisonment to life imprisonment, along with provisions restricting bail for up to one year.
Mann directly attacked the Shiromani Akali Dal, stating that every vote cast in its favor would be seen as support for sacrilege incidents. Referring to the Behbal Kalan and Bargari incidents, he said the people of Punjab would never forgive those responsible. He also mocked the Akali Dal’s “Punjab Bachao Yatra,” calling it a “Parivaar Bachao Yatra.”
Targeting the Congress party, Mann alleged internal divisions and leadership struggles, claiming several leaders are competing for the Chief Minister’s position. He added that voters in the 2027 Assembly elections would have three choices — Congress, Akali Dal, and AAP — asserting that AAP represents the true path of development.
Highlighting government achievements, Mann said 90% of households are receiving free electricity, over 65,000 jobs have been provided, and several toll plazas have been shut down to offer relief to citizens. He also cited increased canal water usage and improvements in education and healthcare sectors as key accomplishments.
Concluding the event, Mann interacted directly with residents, stating that the gathering was not merely a political rally but a platform to strengthen public connection. He assured citizens that every government decision is being taken for public welfare and reiterated his commitment to transforming Punjab into a “Rangla Punjab.”
