Punjab CM Health Scheme Emerges as Lifeline, Offers ₹10 Lakh Free Treatment to Families

Punjab CM Health Scheme Offers ₹10 Lakh Free Care

Amid ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare services in Punjab, the Chief Minister Health Scheme is emerging as a major safety net for families across the state. The initiative provides free medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh per family annually, significantly reducing the financial burden of healthcare while ensuring timely treatment during medical emergencies.

Serious health conditions such as heart attacks, cancer, and childbirth-related complications often occur without warning. In such situations, timely medical care can mean the difference between life and death. However, many families delay treatment due to financial concerns — a challenge the scheme aims to address by offering comprehensive financial protection.

According to the Punjab Health Department, the scheme, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, covers treatment for more than 2,300 diseases in both government and private hospitals. The initiative is being viewed as a major step toward making healthcare more accessible and affordable for citizens.

Global health statistics also highlight growing concerns. As per the World Health Organization (WHO), heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and respiratory illnesses account for nearly 75 percent of deaths worldwide each year. Experts say these diseases often develop silently, making early detection crucial.

Dr. Isha Arora, posted at the District Hospital in Mohali, stated that many patients reach hospitals only when their condition has already advanced. She emphasized that lack of regular health check-ups and absence of early symptoms often create a false sense of security among people, increasing long-term health risks.

Official data shows strong public response to the scheme in Punjab. More than 3.3 million families have enrolled so far, while nearly 1.98 lakh free treatments have already been approved, costing over ₹330 crore. Expensive procedures such as dialysis, cancer treatment, and cardiac care have provided significant relief to thousands of patients under the initiative.

The Punjab government believes the scheme is playing a key role in improving healthcare accessibility and strengthening the state’s public health system.
