India is expected to receive some relief from intense summer heat between April and June, according to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather agency has predicted that maximum temperatures during these three months are likely to remain below normal levels in many regions, which could weaken the impact of heatwaves typically experienced during this period.
According to IMD officials, the expected drop in temperatures may lead to fewer heatwave days, especially across northern India, where extreme heat conditions usually begin intensifying from April onwards.
Lower Chances of Severe Heatwaves
However, the impact will not be uniform across the country. Some parts of eastern, central, western, and southern India may still experience more-than-normal warm days. While temperatures in certain regions could remain above average, overall extreme heat conditions are expected to be less severe compared to previous years.
Above-Normal Rainfall Expected
Rainfall is being considered the primary reason behind the expected relief. The IMD has forecast above-normal rainfall in April, estimating precipitation levels to reach up to 112 percent of the long-period average.
Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Likely
Increased rainfall activity, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, is expected to directly influence temperature levels, bringing cooler conditions and relief from heat. The weather department also stated that rain, strong winds, and thunderstorm activity may continue across several parts of the country in the coming days.
Overall, this year’s summer is likely to be slightly milder compared to recent years, although some regions may still witness spells of intense heat. Authorities have advised citizens to stay alert and follow the latest weather updates amid changing climatic conditions.
