DAV Solan Students Visit Himachal Assembly, Witness Live House Proceedings in Shimla

DAV Solan Students Observe Assembly Proceedings

An inspiring and educational moment unfolded in Shimla as 47 students from DAV School, Solan visited the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Secretariat at around 11:00 AM to closely observe legislative proceedings.

The students watched the Assembly session from the visitors’ gallery, witnessing both the Question Hour and Zero Hour proceedings. The experience was described by the students as highly engaging and educational, offering them practical insight into the functioning of a democratic institution.

Their excitement grew further when Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania acknowledged their presence during the session and formally welcomed them from the Chair.

After the proceedings concluded, the students interacted with the Speaker at Council Chamber Gate No. 1 and took a group photograph. When asked about their experience, the students unanimously described it as “very good” and informative.

Responding to a student’s question about how the House is smoothly conducted among 67 experienced members, Speaker Pathania explained that his role is similar to that of a teacher — maintaining balance while understanding the emotions and viewpoints of all members.

He also informed students that visitors are allowed to observe Assembly proceedings in both Shimla and Dharamshala to promote awareness of democratic processes among citizens. He highlighted the concept of a Children’s Parliament, where students previously enacted roles such as Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition while debating contemporary issues.

The Speaker emphasized that today’s youth are aware, capable, and actively engaged in understanding societal challenges and solutions. Concluding the interaction, he extended his best wishes to the students and encouraged them to contribute actively toward nation-building alongside their education.
