Punjab Police have arrested Saudagar Singh Sarao, father of Shaganpreet Singh — the alleged former manager of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala — in connection with a ₹1 crore extortion case reported in Khanna.
According to police officials, both father and son have allegedly been linked to the extortion demand made from a local commission agent (arhtiya) in the Payal area of Khanna. The accused reportedly threatened the victim while identifying himself as gangster “Donny Bal” and demanded ₹1 crore as ransom.
Following the complaint, Khanna Police registered an FIR and launched an investigation. During the probe, authorities collected technical and other supporting evidence which allegedly revealed that the extortion demand was jointly orchestrated by Shaganpreet Singh, currently residing in Australia, and his father Saudagar Singh, who lives in Punjab.
Based on the findings, police arrested Saudagar Singh from the Payal area.
Meanwhile, Daljit Kaur, mother of Shaganpreet Singh, filed a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) in Chandigarh. She alleged that Punjab and Chandigarh Police illegally detained her husband from their residence, subjected him to physical harassment, and demanded ₹10 lakh.
Daljit Kaur further claimed that her husband is being held in illegal custody and that his life is at risk. She has requested the DGP to ensure his safe recovery and register an FIR against the concerned police officials.
DSP Mohit Singla stated that a few days earlier, a local trader in the Payal constituency received an extortion call allegedly made by Balwinder Singh alias “Donny Bal,” a resident of Beas in Amritsar district. Acting on the information, Payal Police registered a case and initiated legal proceedings against the accused.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
