The electricity supply to the residence of late District Magistrate (DM) Gagandeep Singh Randhawa was reportedly disconnected, forcing his family to spend the entire night in darkness. The family became aware of the power cut only in the morning, and initial reports suggest that the incident may have been carried out by a mischievous or unidentified individual.
The incident comes amid ongoing controversy following the tragic death of DM Gagandeep Singh Randhawa. According to reports, Randhawa had allegedly consumed a toxic substance (sulphas). After his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to a hospital, where he passed away during treatment on Saturday morning.
Before taking the extreme step, Randhawa had shared a video on social media in which he held former cabinet minister Laljit Singh Bhullar responsible for his decision. In the video, he accused the minister of subjecting him to continuous mental pressure.
Randhawa further alleged that he was being pressured to award government tenders in the name of the minister’s father. Following the controversy, Laljit Singh Bhullar resigned from his position. Two days after his resignation, Bhullar and his personal assistant Dilbag Singh were arrested.
After being presented in court, the police secured a five-day remand for further investigation. Meanwhile, the family of the deceased DM has been consistently demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the entire matter, claiming the need for an impartial and transparent investigation.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the power disconnection incident at the family residence.
