Lahaul Spiti Road Restoration Ordered After Flood Damage

Lahaul Spiti Road Restoration DC Orders Urgent Repairs

Kelong (Kameshwar Sharma): The process of Lahaul Spiti Road Restoration has begun after flash floods in Jalhama Nala damaged a temporary road built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). District Commissioner and Chairman of DDMA Lahaul-Spiti, Kiren Bhadhana, inspected the affected site on Tuesday and directed officials to speed up restoration work.

The administration has asked departments to restore connectivity on a war footing to prevent further disruption.

DC Reviews Flood Damage on Ground

During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner assessed the damage caused by the sudden flood in Jalhama Nala. The flood had severely impacted the BRO-constructed temporary road, which is a crucial link for local transport.

At the same time, officials briefed the DC about ongoing challenges in restoring the route and maintaining safe travel conditions.

Urgent Instructions for Road Restoration

The DC directed Border Roads Organisation officials to accelerate repair and rehabilitation work. She emphasized that restoring the road quickly is essential for the region.

In addition, she instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to support BRO with manpower and machinery. This coordination, she said, is necessary for faster restoration.

Priority Given to Farmers and Orchard Growers

The DC highlighted that farmers and orchardists are currently transporting vegetables and cash crops to markets. Road disruption during this time could cause heavy financial losses.

Therefore, the administration has prioritized smooth transportation of agricultural produce. They instructed officials to keep the supply chain uninterrupted.

Work on Drainage and Flood Protection

The DC also instructed Forest Department officials to carry out dredging work in Jalhama Nala on a priority basis.

Moreover, she said proper dredging will reduce the risk of future flood damage to the temporary road.

She added that the measure will also help maintain safe traffic flow until workers complete the Bailey bridge under construction.

Focus on Coordination Between Departments

The Deputy Commissioner urged all departments to work in close coordination. She said smooth communication between BRO, PWD, and Forest Department is essential for timely completion of the Lahaul Spiti Road Restoration work.

Meanwhile, local residents and officials also participated in the inspection and shared on-ground concerns.

Ensuring Safe and Quick Connectivity

Officials said the administration remains committed to restoring normal traffic movement as soon as possible. The focus remains on ensuring safety and uninterrupted access for villagers.

Finally, the district administration reaffirmed that restoring connectivity in flood-affected areas remains a top priority for Lahaul-Spiti.
