Amritsar (Dawarka Nath Rana): In a major breakthrough against cross-border crime, a Pakistan-linked smuggling network has been uncovered as part of a high-impact operation in Punjab. In this case of drone smuggling exposed, over 4 kilograms of heroin and illegal weapons have been seized, and two accused have been arrested by the police in Amritsar.
The operation was carried out under the strict directions of Bhagwant Singh Mann, who has been pushing for a drug-free Punjab. As a result, security agencies have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking and arms smuggling. During this operation, 4.108 kg of heroin, four pistols, and five live cartridges were recovered. Therefore, this case of drone smuggling exposed is being seen as a major success for law enforcement.
According to Gaurav Yadav, the accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers. It has been revealed that communication was maintained through social media platforms. Moreover, the illegal consignments were sent across the border using drones. Consequently, traditional border checks were bypassed, making this method highly dangerous and difficult to detect.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh (21) and Tarsem Singh alias Kairon alias Pehlwan (31), both residents of Tarn Taran. Initially, Arshdeep Singh was arrested with 2.6 kg of heroin. Subsequently, based on his interrogation, Tarsem Singh was also arrested. From his possession, 1.5 kg of heroin along with four sophisticated pistols was recovered. Thus, the entire chain in this drone smuggling exposed case was uncovered step by step.
Notably, the recovered weapons include two Austria-made Glock pistols and two .30 bore pistols manufactured in China. This clearly indicates that the smuggling network has international links. In addition, such recoveries highlight the growing threat posed by cross-border criminal syndicates.
Further investigation has revealed that Tarsem Singh has a long criminal background. Around 16 cases have already been registered against him under serious charges, including the NDPS Act, Arms Act, Jail Act, and attempt to murder. Furthermore, he has been linked to foreign-based gangster Gurpreet Singh alias Krishna Jandiala, who is believed to be operating from abroad.
Interestingly, it has also been disclosed that Tarsem Singh was lured into this network with promises of a fake passport and an opportunity to travel overseas. As a result, he agreed to work for the gangster. This reveals how criminal organizations exploit individuals for illegal activities, especially in cases where drone smuggling exposed operations are involved.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered at the police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and Arms Act. Further investigation is being carried out to identify other members of the network. Efforts are also being made to trace both backward and forward links in this drone smuggling exposed case.
On the other hand, officials have warned that drone-based smuggling is becoming a serious concern in border states like Punjab. However, surveillance systems are being upgraded, and intelligence-based operations are being strengthened. Because of this, more such networks are expected to be busted in the coming days.
