New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who is among the seven MPs who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has released a new video explaining his decision.
In the video shared on his official Instagram account, Chadha said he had been receiving numerous messages over the past three days—some congratulating him and others questioning his decision to leave the party.
He stated that the video was meant for those who wanted to understand the reasons behind his exit, including people who may not have seen his earlier press conference. According to him, he had two other options besides leaving the party, but the situation within AAP had changed significantly.
Chadha, who was once a Chartered Accountant before entering politics, said he left a stable career to serve the nation. He added that he entered politics not to “become something” but to serve, and later became a founding member of AAP. He claimed he has worked for the party for over 15 years, but said it is no longer the same organization.
Alleging internal issues, Chadha said that voices within the party are being suppressed and obstacles are being created in carrying out work. He further claimed that the party has been reduced to a group of individuals who are “compromising and self-serving” rather than focused on public service.
He also said that for years he felt like a “right person in the wrong party.”
Explaining his decision-making process, Chadha said he had three options: leave politics entirely, stay in the party and try to reform it, or join another political platform to continue public service in a positive direction.
He added that all seven MPs who left AAP took the decision together, arguing that while one or two individuals could be mistaken, it is unlikely that all seven would be wrong simultaneously. This collective decision ultimately led them to join a new political platform.
