Amritsar: Members of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab, along with hundreds of farmers, labourers, women, and children from village Kaler Bala, staged a strong protest against the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The protest was led by village president Daljit Singh, where demonstrators raised slogans and also carried out a symbolic effigy burning (Arthi Phook Muzaara) against the state government.
District president Ranjit Singh Kaler Bala stated that while wheat harvesting season is currently underway and daytime power cuts in the agricultural sector are justified to prevent fire incidents, farmers are facing serious issues due to prolonged night-time electricity outages.
He alleged that in the Majitha constituency, long and frequent power cuts at night have worsened the situation, affecting farmers, labourers, and their families. After a full day of hard work in the fields, people are unable to rest properly due to lack of electricity, causing difficulties for children and the elderly as well.
Protesters accused political rivalry and administrative negligence of worsening the power crisis and claimed that the government is engaging in vote-bank politics instead of addressing public issues.
They warned that if the situation does not improve, they will visit the electricity board office at Udoke and inform authorities about their grievances. They also announced plans to hold meetings in nearby villages for further action.
The protest saw participation from Balkar Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Harpreet Singh, Balwinder Singh, Tarlok Singh, along with women and children of the village.
