Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): Himachal Pradesh Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh attended the closing ceremony of the five-day state-level Rohru Fair as the chief guest and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the overall development of the region.
Addressing a large gathering, the Cabinet Minister said that no compromise will be made in the development of Rohru Assembly constituency. He recalled the contributions of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and said that his development vision will continue to be carried forward.
He emphasized that road construction and strengthening remain a top priority for the government. He added that several roads damaged during recent natural disasters over the past 2–3 years are being rapidly rebuilt and restored.
The minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the economic condition of apple growers and farmers through various government schemes. He acknowledged that financial constraints have arisen due to reductions in central assistance, but assured that the state government remains committed to accelerating development works.
He informed that around ₹20 crore is being spent on upgrading the Rohru-Chirgaon road. Efforts are also underway to connect remote villages of Dodra-Kwar with road networks. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, nearly 1,500 km of roads have been approved in the state with an investment of about ₹2,300 crore, including 22 roads in the Rohru region with an allocation of approximately ₹300 crore.
He further stated that the Brandli-Sungri road is being paved, while efforts are ongoing to secure a special package for the upgradation of the Sungri-Rohru road. Plans are also being prepared for the improvement of the Rohru-Rampur road. He assured that pending payments of contractors under the Public Works Department will be cleared soon to accelerate construction activities.
On urban development, Vikramaditya Singh said that projects for beautification, parking facilities, and other infrastructure improvements in Rohru are being prepared. He also mentioned proposals at the central level that include several initiatives for the region, including the development of hydraulic parking systems to improve traffic management.
During the event, the minister released the fair’s souvenir and also felicitated winners of various sports competitions. Cultural performances by school students were highly appreciated.
In sports results, the women’s tug-of-war competition was won by Mahila Mandal Bhamani Limda (first), followed by Mahila Mandal Oda Basti Kaloti (second) and Mahila Mandal Tikkar Diswani (third). In kabaddi, Laxmi Titans Jubbal secured first place, while Chrismatic Chuvara stood second.
The minister also honored Sangeeta Khurana of Rohru for her outstanding contribution to the anti-drug campaign.
MLA Mohan Lal Brakta welcomed the chief guest and said that development works in the Rohru constituency are progressing steadily with focus on roads, education, health, and infrastructure.
SDM Rohru and Fair Committee Chairman Dharmesh Ramotra also welcomed the dignitaries and shared details of the fair’s activities.
The event was attended by local leaders, committee members, temple representatives, officials, and a large number of residents.
