Shimla Police Detain Drug Smuggler Under PIT-NDPS Act

Shimla (Kamehswar Sharma): Shimla Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking by taking strict action against habitual and repeat offenders under the PIT-NDPS Act. In a significant operation, authorities detained a notorious drug smuggler, Khemraj alias Sunny Walia.

The accused, Khemraj alias Sunny Walia, son of late Satish Kumar, resident of Village and Post Office Basantpur, Tehsil and Police Station Sunni, District Shimla, aged 40, was detained under preventive detention orders approved by the Himachal Pradesh Government under Section 3(1) of the PIT-NDPS Act.

Acting on these orders, a police team from Sunni Police Station, with the assistance of the District Crime Record Bureau (DCRB) Shimla, apprehended him from the Basantpur area on April 21, 2026. He was subsequently lodged in Model Central Jail, Kanda on April 22, 2026.

According to police records, the accused had been actively involved in drug trafficking for a long time and has four registered cases under the ND&PS Act between 2023 and 2025 in Sunni and West Shimla police stations. He also has prior criminal cases dating back to 2015 registered at Police Station Dhalli, including charges of assault, property damage, and criminal intimidation.

Authorities stated that the decision for preventive detention was taken due to his continuous involvement in illegal drug activities and repeated criminal behavior.

Shimla Police have reiterated that strict action against habitual drug offenders will continue in the future to protect society from the growing threat of narcotics.
