Amritsar: In a major breakthrough, the Customs Department at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport, Amritsar, has successfully busted a drug smuggling attempt and arrested a passenger carrying a large quantity of narcotics.
The operation was carried out based on APIS profiling and intelligence inputs received from the NCTC. Acting on the tip-off, customs officials intercepted a passenger who arrived at Amritsar Airport via Singapore on flight TR 750, originating from Bangkok.
During detailed profiling and a thorough baggage inspection, officials recovered 6,270 grams (6.27 kg) of cannabis concealed in the passenger’s luggage. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth approximately ₹6.27 crore in the international market.
Following the recovery, the accused was immediately taken into custody and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused may be linked to an international drug trafficking network. Authorities are now conducting a deeper probe to identify other members involved in the syndicate and to dismantle the network.
Customs officials stated that strict surveillance and profiling measures will continue at airports to curb drug trafficking and ensure national security.
