Amritsar Textile Workers Get 9% Wage Hike Deal

Amritsar: Textile workers in Amritsar have successfully secured a 9% wage increase following a joint struggle led by unions including CITU, AITUC, and CTU.

The agitation was launched to demand better wage rates for textile workers. On April 15, 2026, union representatives held negotiations with the employers’ association, resulting in an agreement for a 9% hike in wages.

A massive gathering of textile workers was held today at Maya Ram Haveli in Amritsar, where the agreement was formally presented. Workers welcomed the decision with slogans and unanimously approved the deal.

According to union leaders, the agreement will remain effective until December 3, 2027.

Addressing the gathering, union leaders including Comrade Sucha Singh Ajnala (CITU State Vice President), Amarjit Singh Ansal, and Jagtar Singh Karampura (AITUC leader) congratulated the workers on their victory.

The leaders also expressed solidarity with ongoing labor protests in Noida, demanding that cases filed against workers be withdrawn immediately. They urged authorities to release detained workers and accept their demands to restore a fair working environment.

Several union members and workers, including Charanjit Majitha, Vijay Kumar, Kirpa Ram, Mohan Lal, Shamsher Singh, Jaswinder Kaur, Dharampal, Balbir Singh, Suraj, Ashok, Ram Murti, and Billa, were present at the event.
