Preparations for the annual Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin in July, have gained momentum in Pathankot, bringing excitement among thousands of devotees.
A major update for pilgrims is that the registration process, along with medical fitness certification, has already started in April. This early start has increased enthusiasm among those planning to undertake the sacred journey.
As per the guidelines issued by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, devotees can complete offline registration at designated bank branches located on Gurdaspur Road, including J&K Bank, SBI, and PNB. The registration fee has been fixed at ₹150.
Medical Certificate Mandatory
Obtaining a medical fitness certificate has been made compulsory for all pilgrims. At the Civil Hospital in Pathankot, designated doctors have been assigned to conduct health check-ups.
Pilgrims are required to first download the online application form and then visit the hospital for a detailed medical examination. Tests include ECG, blood pressure, X-ray, and other necessary health screenings. The fitness certificate will only be issued if all reports are found satisfactory.
This document is considered one of the most essential requirements for undertaking the pilgrimage.
High Participation Expected
Every year, around 20,000 to 25,000 devotees from Pathankot participate in the Amarnath Yatra. Doctors revealed that even before the start of the pilgrimage, more than 100 people are visiting the Civil Hospital daily to obtain medical certificates, with services being provided on a priority basis.
Improved Situation This Year
Last year, the number of pilgrims saw a slight decline due to a terror attack in Pahalgam. However, with the situation now stable, enthusiasm among devotees has significantly increased this year.
Important Guidelines for Pilgrims
Authorities have issued key guidelines:
- Children below 13 years and senior citizens above 70 years are not allowed
- Pregnant women beyond 6 weeks are not permitted
- Valid ID proof such as Aadhaar card or passport is mandatory
Only after completing all procedures will devotees receive the Yatra slip, which allows them to proceed on the sacred journey.
The administration appears fully prepared this year, aiming to ensure a safe, smooth, and well-organized pilgrimage experience for all devotees.
