Writers Pay Tribute to Playwright Jatinder Brar on Punjabi Language Day

Tribute to Jatinder Brar on Punjabi Language Day

On the occasion of International Punjabi Mother Language Day, literary and cultural organizations organized a special event at Sarup Rani Government Women College to honor the late playwright Jatinder Brar.

The event was supported by academic and cultural bodies, bringing together writers, scholars, teachers, students, and literature enthusiasts. Eminent speaker Dr. Kuldeep Singh Deep emphasized the importance of promoting regional languages in education. He stated that children should be encouraged to learn and write in Punjabi instead of relying heavily on English rhymes, as language plays a crucial role in preserving culture.

Presiding over the event, poet Prof. Surjit Judge highlighted that true knowledge and imagination flourish best in one’s mother tongue. He described Punjabi as a language of the heart, deeply connected to emotions and identity.

During the program, several teachers who contributed significantly to the promotion of the Punjabi language were honored. Additionally, new literary works, including poetry books and magazines, were officially released, showcasing the richness of Punjabi literature.

The gathering served as a reminder of the importance of preserving and promoting regional languages and cultural heritage. Speakers urged educational institutions and society to prioritize mother tongue education to ensure the growth and sustainability of Punjabi language and literature.
