A wanted criminal was shot dead in broad daylight at Green Park in Jamalpur area of Ludhiana on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police officials, the deceased has been identified as Pradeep Billa, a resident of Ram Nagar Bhamiya, Ludhiana. He reportedly had five to six criminal cases registered against him and was wanted in multiple cases.
Initial reports suggest that Billa had come to the park for a walk and was accompanied by two girls at the time of the incident. Eyewitnesses stated that three assailants arrived on a scooter and opened fire following an alleged argument with the victim. Only one gunshot was reportedly heard, which struck Billa in the head, killing him on the spot.
Police reached the scene soon after receiving information about the incident at around 4:30 pm and began an investigation.
Jamalpur SHO Sub-Inspector Daljit Singh said that Billa was carrying a revolver at the time of the incident. The two girls accompanying him fled the spot after the shooting. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and questioning witnesses to trace the attackers.
The incident has created panic in the locality, and heavy police deployment has been made in the area. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the killing.
