Trump Signals Support for Iran Power Shift, Orders Second US Carrier to Middle East

Donald Trump has suggested that a change in leadership in Iran would be the best possible outcome as his administration considers potential military action against Tehran.

The remarks came shortly after Trump visited American troops at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Earlier in the day, he confirmed the deployment of a second aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East, signaling a significant escalation in the US military posture in the region.

The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, is being moved from the Caribbean Sea to the Middle East. It will join the USS Abraham Lincoln and its guided-missile destroyers, which have already been stationed in the region for more than two weeks.

The planned deployment comes just days after Trump hinted at the possibility of another round of diplomatic talks with Iranian officials, highlighting the uncertain trajectory of US-Iran relations.

Gulf Arab nations have warned that any military strike could ignite a broader regional conflict, particularly as the Middle East remains on edge following the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

At the same time, internal tensions are rising within Iran. Citizens have begun observing 40-day mourning ceremonies for thousands reportedly killed during a violent crackdown on nationwide protests last month. The commemorations add further domestic pressure on the sanctions-hit Islamic Republic as it faces mounting international and regional challenges.
