Tragic Selfie Mishap at Budgam Rail Yard: Two Srinagar Teens Severely Burned by Live Wire, Rushed to Hospital

Two young men from Srinagar suffered critical burn injuries while attempting selfies atop a stationary train at Budgam Railway Yard, after accidentally touching a live high-tension overhead wire, a railway official reported.

The victims had climbed onto an Accident Relief Train (ART) parked in the yard. As they posed for photos on the roof, they came into contact with the electrified line, suffering severe shocks that left them badly charred.

Both were immediately transported to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for emergency treatment. Medical sources confirmed life-threatening injuries from the electrocution.

The injured were identified as 16-year-old Reyaan Ahmed Dar, son of Shameem Ahmed Dar from Marjpora Batamalu (in critical condition), and 20-year-old Arbaz Ahmed Dar, son of Mahirajdin Dar from the same area (condition stable).

Railway officials warned that overhead electric traction lines carry extremely high voltage, posing deadly risks even from brief contact. Police have taken note of the incident and are probing further details.

Authorities renewed appeals to the public, especially youth, to avoid climbing trains or railway infrastructure for photos or fun, stressing that such actions can lead to irreversible harm.
