Supreme Court Warns West Bengal DGP Over Violence, Political Interference in SIR Process

SC Warns Bengal DGP Over SIR Violence Allegations

The Supreme Court of India has cautioned the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal over alleged incidents of violence and political interference during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

During the hearing, the apex court made it clear that if the DGP fails to take proactive steps against objectionable remarks made by political leaders, strict action could be initiated against him in the future. The court stressed the need to ensure that the SIR process is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner without any external pressure.

The bench directed the DGP to submit a detailed report in the next hearing outlining the measures taken in response to complaints received regarding violence and interference. The matter has been scheduled for hearing again next month.

The court’s observations underscore the judiciary’s concern over maintaining law and order and safeguarding institutional processes from political influence.
