Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, alleging widespread corruption and demanding a CBI investigation into the alleged suicide of Amritsar DM Gagandeep Singh Randhawa.
Jakhar made these remarks while speaking to journalists before leading a protest march toward the Chief Minister’s residence, seeking justice in the case. Opposition parties, including the BJP, staged a demonstration outside the Chief Minister’s house, during which several protesters were detained by Chandigarh Police.
The BJP leader alleged that the officer was distressed due to alleged corruption involving AAP minister Laljit Singh Bhullar. He claimed that although an FIR had been registered against the minister following public pressure and protests, no arrest had been made so far.
Announcing further agitation, Jakhar said the BJP would hold protests at all district headquarters across Punjab on March 23. He added that he would personally participate in a district-level protest in Patiala.
Launching a strong political attack, Jakhar accused the state government of betraying public trust and alleged that individuals from Delhi were exploiting Punjab’s resources. He claimed the government had become a burden on the state and questioned the Chief Minister’s moral authority to remain in office.
He further alleged that justice could not be expected from the current administration and demanded that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for an impartial probe.
Jakhar also criticized the silence of AAP’s national leadership, stating that the BJP would continue its protest until justice is delivered to the deceased officer’s family.
The issue has intensified political tensions in Punjab, with opposition parties escalating protests against the state government over governance and accountability concerns.
