Bathinda: A shocking incident at Bathinda Central Jail has raised serious questions about prison management and internal security. During a joint operation involving the police and jail administration, an outsourced employee linked to the health department was caught with heroin.
According to sources, the operation was carried out on Monday based on a secret tip-off. Suspicious activity led authorities to stop Sagar Singh, a lab technician posted inside the jail, and search his vehicle. Police recovered 68.25 grams of heroin from the car, after which Singh was immediately arrested.
The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and are expanding the investigation to trace the intended recipients of the drugs and identify the smuggling network operating within the prison.
This incident has also raised concerns about the effectiveness of measures aimed at preventing drug supply inside jails. Notably, in December, another case emerged when Constable Varinder Kumar was arrested for supplying drugs to inmates, with heroin, opium, and intoxicating capsules recovered from his residential quarters.
These repeated incidents underscore the urgent need for stricter internal monitoring and enhanced vigilance in the prison system. Authorities are now closely watching how the ongoing investigation unfolds and what further revelations the police may uncover.
