Shimla Hosts South Asian Table Tennis Championship

The Indira Gandhi State Sports Complex in Shimla will host the South Asian Table Tennis Championship from April 8 to April 11, marking a historic moment for Himachal Pradesh as the state hosts an international-level table tennis tournament for the first time.

The prestigious competition will feature nearly 100 players from India, Nepal, Maldives, and Bangladesh. Participants will compete in team events, singles, and doubles categories, showcasing top-level talent from across South Asia.

The tournament holds added significance as outstanding performers will earn qualification spots for the upcoming Asian Championship. The top two teams in the team event, the top four players in the singles category, and the top two teams in doubles will qualify for the Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship scheduled to be held in Muscat from June 21 to June 27.

Himachal Pradesh Table Tennis Association General Secretary Aadish Rana described the event as a matter of pride for the state. He said the championship would not only provide international recognition to Himachal Pradesh but also offer local young players a valuable opportunity to watch and learn from South Asia’s best table tennis athletes.

Officials believe the tournament will play a key role in promoting table tennis in the region and inspire a new generation of players, giving a major boost to the sport’s future in the state.
