Shimla Temples to Get Standardised Bhandara System, Online Services Soon

Shimla Temples to Standardise Bhandara, Launch Website

The Shimla district administration has decided to introduce minimum standards for bhandaras (community meals) organized in temples across the district to ensure uniformity and transparency. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap has directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to define minimum food menus for bhandaras held in temples under their respective jurisdictions.

Officials stated that standardized dishes will help maintain consistency and allow authorities to determine appropriate pricing for bhandaras.

The decision was taken during a review meeting held on Tuesday to assess the progress of a dedicated website being developed for prominent temples in Shimla district. Authorities informed that nearly 80 percent of the website development work has already been completed.

The Deputy Commissioner said that keeping modern requirements in mind, a comprehensive digital platform is being created to provide devotees with easy access to temple-related information and services. Through the website, devotees will be able to access facilities such as virtual darshan, bhandara slot booking, online donations, live aarti streaming, and accommodation booking.

In the first phase, three major temples — Mata Tara Devi Temple, Sankat Mochan Temple, and Jakhu Temple — will be integrated into the portal. Other temples across the district will be added in subsequent phases.

Officials highlighted that the website will improve transparency in temple management while providing devotees detailed information including temple history, cultural significance, maps, photographs, and aarti schedules.

Necessary directions regarding website development have been issued to officials of the Himachal Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation Limited. AC to DC Devi Chand Thakur was also present during the meeting.

Bhandara Details Available in One Click

Once launched, devotees will be able to view complete bhandara schedules online. With a single click, visitors can check dates, organizers, and related updates — information that was previously not publicly accessible.

The initiative is expected to enhance convenience for devotees while modernizing temple administration across Shimla district.
