A district-level review meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap was held at Bachhat Bhawan on Tuesday to assess the implementation of various banking and government welfare schemes in Shimla district.
During the meeting, detailed reports on multiple financial schemes were presented. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that benefits of Central and State Government schemes must reach the maximum number of beneficiaries through banks. He highlighted the importance of financial literacy, stating that increased awareness helps people strengthen self-employment opportunities while contributing to the state’s economic growth.
Kashyap directed all banks to complete pending formalities under various schemes at the earliest to ensure timely approval of applications.
Officials informed that the district currently has 48 banks operating through 390 branches and 336 ATMs, including 271 branches located in rural areas. The district’s credit-deposit ratio has reached 46.88 percent, while 43.27 percent of the Annual Credit Plan target for the financial year 2025–26 has already been achieved.
Under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, the district exceeded its target of 50,000 cards by issuing 94,441 cards, out of which 49,149 RuPay cards have been distributed.
Additionally, financial assistance worth ₹5.70 crore has been provided to 184 Self-Help Groups across the district. Under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), 84 cases have been approved to promote entrepreneurship and employment.
As of December 31, 2025, a total of 1,96,314 bank accounts have been opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, with 22,943 accounts currently having zero balance. A total of 1,32,664 RuPay cards have also been issued.
Officials further reported that 655 individuals have received skill training under the Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI).
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sachin Sharma and representatives from various banks were present during the meeting.
