Shefali Verma’s Stroke-Filled Unbeaten 69 Powers India to 7-Wicket Win Over Sri Lanka, Spinners Seal 2-0 Series Lead

Visakhapatnam – Shefali Verma smashed an unbeaten 69 off 34 balls, adorned with elegant strokes, to guide India to a comfortable 7-wicket victory chasing a modest 129, while the spin trio’s cunning restricted Sri Lanka and secured a 2-0 lead in the five-match series on Tuesday. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss again and opted to bowl first, with Kranti Goud striking early by dismissing Vishmi Gunaratne in the opening over.

Jemimah Rodrigues, named Delhi Capitals captain for WPL 2026 just an hour before the match, partnered Verma in a crucial 58-run stand, aggressively targeting spinners and lofting boundaries to accelerate after Smriti Mandhana’s early dismissal. Verma reached her half-century off 27 balls, finishing the chase in the 12th over as Sri Lanka’s captain Chamari Athapaththu resorted prematurely to pacers.

India’s spinners dominated earlier: Sneha Rana removed Athapaththu for 31, Shri Chanu maintained tight lines, and debutant Vaishnavi Sharma claimed her first international wicket. The trio bowled 12 overs for 5/66, limiting Sri Lanka to just 11 fours and two sixes in 20 overs for a below-par total.
