SGPC Forms AI Expert Panel to Curb Misinformation on Sikhism

SGPC Sets Up AI Panel to Check Sikh Misinformation

To curb the spread of misinformation about Sikhism through Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and to prevent objectionable content against Sikh religious principles on social media, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) convened a meeting of a specially constituted sub-committee at its headquarters in Amritsar.

The sub-committee was formed under the direction of SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami, who emphasized the need to address the growing misuse of AI tools in spreading inaccurate and offensive information related to Sikhism.

The meeting was attended by prominent technical experts and academicians, including Dr. Sarpreeet Singh from Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib; Dr. Gurpal Singh of Khalsa College, Patiala; Dr. Jagdeep Singh Mallhi and Dr. Satinderpal Singh from Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana; Harmeet Shah Singh (UK); Dr. Sarbjot Singh (UK); SGPC System Administrator Karamveer Singh; and Incharge Sivaraj Singh. Dr. Harjinder Singh Sandhu from the United States participated virtually.

Providing details, SGPC Assistant Secretary Harbhajan Singh Vakta stated that the meeting followed earlier discussions between the SGPC President and experts working in the field of Artificial Intelligence. As per the decision of the executive committee, a dedicated panel of AI specialists was constituted to examine the issue in depth and recommend preventive measures.

During the meeting, members offered valuable suggestions to counter AI-generated misinformation and objectionable material targeting Sikh religious values on digital platforms. The report of the discussions will be submitted to the SGPC President for approval, after which further action will be initiated.

Members of the sub-committee also assured continued cooperation and technical support to the SGPC in safeguarding Sikh religious identity and ensuring responsible use of emerging technologies.

The initiative reflects the SGPC’s proactive approach in addressing digital-age challenges and protecting the sanctity of Sikh traditions in the era of Artificial Intelligence.
