A sacrilege incident has come to light in Khanna, Punjab, after pages of the sacred Gutka Sahib were allegedly torn and scattered on a street, triggering anger among local residents.
The incident took place in Street No. 2, Singh Avenue area of Khanna, where locals discovered the holy scripture’s pages scattered in the lane. Following the incident, strong resentment was witnessed among residents, who demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
A CCTV footage related to the incident has also surfaced, reportedly showing a minor child scattering the pages of the Gutka Sahib. However, local residents suspect a larger conspiracy behind the act and have urged authorities to conduct a detailed probe.
Residents further alleged that individuals living in nearby temporary settlements might be involved and claimed that many of them are residing in the area without proper identification or legal documents. They demanded verification checks to prevent such incidents in the future.
Police officials reached the spot immediately after receiving information and initiated an investigation. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has also lodged an official complaint regarding the incident.
Speaking on the matter, Shiromani Akali Dal Khanna constituency in-charge Yadvinder Singh Jadoo stated that a complete investigation must be conducted and strict action should be taken against those responsible. He warned that protests could be organized if justice is not delivered.
Meanwhile, DSP Tarlochan Singh confirmed that police teams promptly reached the location after receiving the complaint. He said CCTV footage showing a minor is being examined and assured that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found responsible after the investigation is completed.
Authorities have appealed to the public to maintain peace while the investigation remains underway.
