Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ Faces Protest Over Sikh Sentiment Controversy

Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh’s recently released film Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which hit theatres on March 19, has landed in controversy after members of the Sikh community raised objections to a particular scene in the movie.

Despite receiving strong audience response and reportedly collecting over ₹100 crore on its opening day, the film has now sparked protests, with a formal complaint filed against the actor and the filmmakers at the Mulund Police Station in Mumbai.

The complaint was lodged by Gurjyot Keer, a Shiv Sena leader and president of the Sikh in Maharashtra organization, alleging that certain scenes in the film have hurt Sikh religious sentiments.

Allegations by Sikh Community

According to the complainants, the film contains visuals that allegedly disrespect Sikh identity and Guru Gobind Singh, leading to strong reactions from members of the community. The group has demanded an immediate apology from the film’s production house.

Community representatives warned that protests could intensify if their demands are not addressed promptly.

Notably, objections had also been raised by Sikh organizations before the film’s release. The controversy has resurfaced following renewed concerns over Ranveer Singh’s appearance in the film, particularly scenes showing him wearing a turban, kada, and a grown beard.

Role Played in the Film

In Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Ranveer Singh portrays the character Jaskirat Singh Rangi, a resident of a village in Punjab. The final scene of the film, featuring the actor in a Sikh appearance, has become the central point of dispute.

As of now, neither the actor nor the film’s production team has issued an official response to the allegations. Police authorities are expected to review the complaint and take further action as per legal procedures.

The controversy has added a new dimension to the film’s box office success, drawing national attention to debates around creative freedom and religious sensitivity in cinema.
