Senior Congress leader Raj Kumar Verka strongly criticized the Punjab government over the recent public murder of a sitting sarpanch in Tarn Taran, calling the incident deeply unfortunate and alarming.
Speaking to the media in Tarn Taran, Verka questioned the law and order situation in Punjab and accused the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government of failing to maintain public safety.
The Congress leader said the sarpanch, reportedly associated with the Aam Aadmi Party, was shot dead during a wedding ceremony at a marriage palace — an incident he described as extremely concerning.
Verka alleged that crime has become widespread across Punjab, claiming that robberies and murders are being reported frequently. He further stated that gangsters are roaming freely without fear of the police.
He pointed out that this was the tenth major violent incident in Tarn Taran and alleged that similar crimes are occurring across the state. Questioning the state leadership, Verka said that if the Chief Minister is unable to control the deteriorating law and order situation, he should resign on moral grounds.
In his concluding remarks, Verka urged the Central Government, the Governor and the Union Home Ministry to intervene and issue strict directions to restore peace and stability in Punjab.
The incident has once again sparked political debate over the state’s security situation and governance.
