Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a 32-hour ceasefire on the occasion of Orthodox Easter, temporarily pausing military operations in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
The ceasefire comes amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War, which has continued to impact global geopolitics and security dynamics.
According to the Kremlin, the truce will begin on Saturday at 4 p.m. (1300 GMT) and continue until Sunday midnight (2100 GMT). Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov has instructed senior military officials, including Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov, to halt all military operations during this period across all frontlines.
However, Russian forces have also been directed to remain alert and respond to any possible provocations or hostile actions during the ceasefire window.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine will adhere to the ceasefire. He stated that Ukraine had previously proposed reciprocal truce measures during Easter and remains committed to similar humanitarian pauses.
In a statement shared on Telegram, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is ready for coordinated steps toward temporary de-escalation, provided both sides comply with the agreement.
The announcement comes at a sensitive time, as global diplomatic efforts continue to address multiple ongoing international tensions linked to the broader geopolitical crisis.
While both sides have expressed conditional willingness to observe the ceasefire, uncertainty remains over long-term stability and compliance on the battlefield.
