Punjab Police Foil Major Terror Plot, 2.5 Kg RDX IED Seized in Mohali Operation

Punjab Terror Module Busted, 2.5 Kg RDX Seized

In a major breakthrough, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Mohali has foiled a large terror conspiracy in Punjab by busting an active terror module and seizing 2.5 kilograms of RDX along with a fully functional Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The operation was carried out under the supervision of SSOC IG Deepak Parik, with a team led by DSP Gurcharan Singh. Officials confirmed that the IED was pre-fitted with batteries and in complete working condition, raising serious concerns about its intended use.

Police arrested Mahavir Kumar alias Kaka and his associate Manpreet Singh alias Mani from SBS Nagar district. A Glock pistol and four live 9mm cartridges were recovered from Mahavir’s possession.

During interrogation, Mahavir revealed that he had received the IED consignment and buried it in soil near the SBS Nagar bypass while awaiting further instructions. Based on his disclosure, police recovered the IED and a remote-control device. Sections of the Explosives Act have also been added to the case.

Investigations suggest that the accused were operating under instructions from foreign-based handlers. The names identified include Gopi Nawanshahria, Sushant Chopra (a resident of SBS Nagar currently based in the United States), and Jaspreet Singh alias Jassi from village Kalam in SBS Nagar, who were allegedly coordinating the module’s activities from abroad.

Both accused are currently in SSOC police remand. Authorities are conducting an in-depth probe into the supply chain, funding network, and possible additional collaborators linked to the terror plot.

Punjab Police stated that the timely operation has prevented a major threat to peace and communal harmony in the state. Further investigations are underway to dismantle the entire network behind the conspiracy.
