Punjab Police Seize 16.8 kg Heroin, Arrest 4 Drug Runners

Phagwara: In a major operation targeting cross-border drug trafficking, Punjab Police have busted a Pakistan-supported narcotics module, arresting four individuals, including a woman, and seizing 16.8 kilograms of heroin. The move is part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s ongoing campaign to make Punjab a drug-free state.

The arrests were confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, who stated that the accused have been identified as Balwinder Singh (Pandori Mohalla, Sultanpur Lodhi), Sumanpreet Kaur (Gohlwara, Amritsar), Harpal Singh, and Jaskaranbir Singh (Daoke village, Amritsar).

During the operation, police also confiscated a grey Maruti Baleno car used by the gang for smuggling. Preliminary investigations revealed that the narcotics network was being coordinated under instructions from handlers based in Pakistan and Dubai. The seized heroin was brought from Amritsar’s border area and was intended to be transported to Chandigarh.

DGP Yadav highlighted that this bust delivers a significant blow to cross-border drug trafficking networks operating in Punjab, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to curbing substance abuse and ensuring public safety.
