Punjab Police Seize 150 Kg Poppy Husk, Two Arrested

Under the Punjab government’s ongoing anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh,” Shutrana Police have achieved a major success by arresting two drug smugglers and recovering 150 kilograms of poppy husk.

Sharing details with the media, Senior Superintendent of Police Patiala, Varun Sharma IPS, said the action was carried out as part of a special drive against drug trafficking. The operation was led by ASP Vaibhav Choudhary IPS, DSP Investigation Gurbans Singh PPS, DSP Patran Inderpal Chauhan PPS, and SHO Shutrana SI Jaspal Singh along with their police team.

The SSP informed that on February 6, 2026, during routine patrolling, the police team intercepted a white car bearing registration number DL 8C BB 5169 on the link road between village Shutrana and village Naivala. Upon checking the vehicle, police recovered 150 kg of poppy husk packed in six plastic bags.

The arrested accused have been identified as Shamsher Singh alias Sanju, resident of village Dilawarpur under Police Station Passiana, district Patiala, and Balveer Singh alias Kala alias Mahi, resident of village Muradpur under Police Station City Samana, district Patiala.

A case bearing FIR number 33 dated February 6, 2026, has been registered under Sections 15, 25, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Patran. The accused will be produced before the court to seek police remand for further in-depth investigation to identify forward and backward links in the drug supply network.
