Punjab Police achieved another major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown against crime after solving a sensitive attempted murder case within just 48 hours and arresting the accused.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans said that on March 24, an unidentified man wearing a helmet forcibly entered a woman’s residence in Kings Valley Society on Gulabgarh Road in Dera Bassi and carried out a life-threatening attack using a sharp-edged weapon. The victim sustained serious injuries in the assault.
Following the incident, FIR No. 126 dated March 24, 2026, was registered at Dera Bassi Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Considering the seriousness of the case, a special investigation team was constituted under the supervision of SP Dera Bassi Bikramjit Singh Brar. The team, led by Inspector Sumit Mor, SHO Dera Bassi, used technical evidence and human intelligence inputs to identify and apprehend the accused.
The arrested accused has been identified as Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Budhanpur, Sector-16, Panchkula. Police recovered the sharp weapon used in the attack along with an Activa scooter involved in the crime.
In a dramatic development, the accused allegedly attempted to escape from police custody after his arrest by jumping from a room, resulting in injuries.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the attack was linked to a financial dispute. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to uncover additional details related to the case.
