Punjab’s NRI Affairs Minister Dr Ravjot Singh has urged immediate intervention from the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safe evacuation of Punjabis stranded in the Middle East due to the ongoing Israel-Iran War.
In a letter addressed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Dr Ravjot Singh requested an urgent meeting to discuss steps for bringing back Punjabis safely from the conflict-affected region. He emphasized that the escalating tensions pose a serious threat to the safety and well-being of Indian citizens, particularly those from Punjab.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the minister stated that immediate coordination between central authorities and Indian diplomatic missions is essential to ensure secure evacuation arrangements.
During the crisis, Dr Ravjot Singh also spoke over the phone with several Punjabis stranded at different airports in the United Arab Emirates. He gathered first-hand information about the difficulties they are facing due to the ongoing war and travel disruptions.
The minister assured them that the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is making every possible effort to facilitate their safe return. He further stated that the state government is in continuous contact with the Centre and Indian embassies across the Middle East to monitor the situation closely.
As tensions continue in the region, families of stranded individuals in Punjab are anxiously awaiting further updates, while authorities work toward ensuring their safe and timely evacuation.
