Amritsar, February 21: Punjab’s Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education and Research Minister Balbir Singh inaugurated the AIPNA-ICP 2026 International Pathology Conference at Government Medical College Amritsar, marking a significant milestone in global medical collaboration.

The three-day international conference is being jointly organised by the Association of Indian Pathologists in North America (AIPNA) and the Indian College of Pathologists (ICP). It has brought together leading pathologists, medical educators, researchers, and healthcare professionals from across the world.

A Platform for Advanced Research and Innovation

Addressing the gathering, Dr Balbir Singh said the conference would serve as a dynamic platform for sharing cutting-edge research, innovative diagnostic techniques, and transformative educational practices in the field of pathology. He emphasized that such global collaborations would significantly strengthen medical education and patient care systems.

The minister also highlighted Punjab government’s healthcare reforms, including infrastructure upgrades in public hospitals, recruitment of specialist doctors, expansion of high-tech medical equipment, and the rollout of Mohalla Clinics providing free and quality healthcare services.

He further noted that the state has launched a health scheme offering free annual treatment coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family.

Global Participation and Key Discussions

Dr Avnish Kumar, Director of Medical Education and Research, Punjab, stated that the conference celebrates not only scientific excellence but also reflects the spirit and heritage of Amritsar. He stressed the importance of integrating modern technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, into medical diagnostics and education.

Renowned experts from the United States and other countries are participating in the conference. Former GMC Amritsar faculty member Dr Vinay Kumar joined virtually from Chicago to share insights from his research in pathology.

Professor Dr Parmeet Kaur Bagga, Head of the Department of Pathology, welcomed delegates with an inspiring address, underlining the foundational role of pathology in modern medicine and the importance of linking real-world clinical examples with innovative teaching methodologies.
