Punjab Govt Increases Financial Aid for Acid Attack Survivors

Punjab Raises Aid for Acid Attack Survivors

In a significant step towards ensuring financial security and social dignity for acid attack survivors, the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced an increase in financial assistance under its welfare scheme.

Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that the scheme for acid attack survivors has been made gender-neutral over the past year. Earlier limited to women beneficiaries, the scheme will now also cover male and transgender survivors.

She further announced that the monthly financial assistance under the scheme has been increased from ₹8,000 to ₹10,000, which will play an important role in supporting survivors’ livelihood and rehabilitation.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment toward victims of violence, Dr. Baljit Kaur said the initiative goes beyond financial aid and reflects a sincere effort to restore dignity, confidence, and social respect for survivors.

“The Punjab Government stands firmly with every individual who has suffered any form of violence. This decision is not only about monetary assistance but also about restoring self-respect and trust among survivors,” she said.

Highlighting the severe impact of such crimes, the minister noted that acid attacks cause not only physical injuries but also deep emotional and psychological trauma. She emphasized that the enhanced support sends a strong message that survivors are not alone and that the government remains committed to helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

The Punjab Government reiterated its commitment to protecting human rights and ensuring the welfare of all sections of society while striving to create a safer and more inclusive environment where every survivor can live with equality, security, and respect.
