Punjab Govt Approves Prosecution Against DIG Inderbir Singh in Drug and Corruption Case

Punjab Clears Case Against DIG Inderbir Singh

In a major development, the Punjab government has approved legal proceedings against 2007-batch IPS officer and DIG Inderbir Singh over serious allegations related to drugs and corruption. Following clearance from the Home Department, the Vigilance Bureau is expected to soon file a chargesheet in court.

The case dates back to 2022, when allegations of bribery and aiding drug traffickers surfaced against the senior police officer. According to officials, the DIG is facing accusations in two major controversies.

In the first case, Inderbir Singh is accused of allegedly helping a drug trafficker evade legal action during the investigation of an NDPS case registered in Tarn Taran. In the second case, he allegedly demanded a bribe by threatening to implicate a police sub-inspector in a false narcotics case.

The Vigilance Bureau had been investigating the matter for a long time. However, due to the officer’s senior rank, formal government approval was required before initiating court proceedings. The necessary sanction has now been granted.

Government Sends Strong Message

The decision by the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is being viewed as a strong stance against drugs and corruption. The government has reiterated that no individual is above the law, regardless of rank or position.

With the case pending since 2022 now moving to court, significant revelations are expected during legal proceedings. The decision has also created noticeable reactions within internal circles of the Punjab Police.
