The Punjab government has appointed Dr Pushpinder Singh Gill as the Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala. His tenure will be for a period of three years from the date he assumes charge.
Dr Gill brings with him over 36 years of rich experience in academics, research, administration, and international consultancy. A retired professor from Punjabi University, Patiala, he has served in multiple academic and leadership roles and is widely respected for his strategic vision and governance skills.
According to an official spokesperson, Dr Gill holds a PhD from Punjabi University, Patiala, awarded in 1993. During his distinguished academic career, he served extensively in the School of Management Studies and contributed significantly to academic excellence and institutional development.
Adding a unique dimension to his profile, Dr Gill also served as Chief Executive Officer for Coca-Cola in Africa between 1999 and 2001, working across Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Nigeria. During this period, he gained valuable expertise in corporate governance and strategic management, which he later integrated into higher education administration.
Dr Gill has an impressive academic output, including 84 research publications in national and international journals, 10 books, and over 400 articles on management and allied subjects published in reputed journals and newspapers.
The spokesperson said that Dr Gill’s leadership is expected to play a crucial role in positioning Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University as a leading national institution in integrated sports education, high-performance sports, and applied research. The vision includes fostering collaboration among students, athletes, faculty, coaches, and industry to translate knowledge and sports science into podium performances and career opportunities in the sports sector.
Dr Gill has also served as an expert member of Public Service Commissions in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab, further strengthening his credentials in public administration and governance.
