In a major push toward strengthening Punjab public education system, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains conducted a surprise inspection at Government Senior Secondary School, Jhita Kalan, as part of his ongoing statewide review campaign.
The minister stated that since assuming office, he has inspected over 2,000 government schools across Punjab — calling it a historic milestone in the state’s education reforms. He emphasized that this is the first time in Punjab’s history that an education minister has carried out such extensive ground-level inspections.
Bains said he has visited schools from Pathankot to Fazilka and Ferozepur to Mohali, ensuring quality education for students across districts. With nearly 20,000 schools in the state, he described his inspections as part of a mission to transform government education.
During his interaction with staff and students, Bains reviewed academic and administrative standards and assessed the progress of the ‘Samrath’ program — a key initiative aimed at addressing foundational learning gaps in primary classes. He recalled that when he took charge, many primary students struggled with basic reading and writing skills.
Highlighting the program’s impact, he expressed satisfaction over students who have progressed from identifying letters to confidently reading words and sentences. He credited dedicated teachers for delivering strong results and warned that any negligence affecting students’ future would not be tolerated.
Reaffirming the zero-tolerance policy of the Bhagwant Mann government, Bains said strict action would be taken against teachers failing to fulfill their responsibilities.
To ensure a safe and supportive learning environment, the minister added that campus managers and security guards have been deployed in all senior secondary government schools with over 500 students. He also urged the public and media to highlight the achievements of hardworking teachers and successful schools like Jhita Kalan.
The minister noted significant infrastructure upgrades at the school and praised its academic performance, mentioning that one student recently cleared the JEE examination. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing world-class facilities in public schools and directed officials to accelerate development projects under the Punjab Education Revolution initiative.
