A high-level review meeting was held at the District Administrative Complex to assess the welfare schemes being implemented for backward classes in Punjab and ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive maximum benefits from both state and central government programs.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Malkit Singh Theind, Chairman of the Punjab State Backward Classes Commission, and attended by Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh along with Additional Commissioner Rohit Gupta and officials from multiple departments.
During the meeting, the chairman directed officials to spread awareness about all government welfare schemes so that no eligible person is left out. He emphasized that benefits such as scholarships, financial grants, and caste certificates should be made easily accessible without unnecessary hurdles.
Dr. Theind instructed officials to conduct awareness drives at the village and ward level to ensure that people belonging to backward classes are fully informed about schemes such as scholarship programs, Shagun scheme benefits, and BC certificate eligibility requirements.
He further stressed that schools and colleges should actively educate students and parents about these welfare initiatives, as many families remain unaware of available government support.
The chairman also reviewed departmental schemes across education, health, PSPCL, fisheries, agriculture, food supply, employment bureau, youth services, and police departments. He instructed officials to ensure that welfare benefits reach every eligible beneficiary at the grassroots level.
The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive development and improving access to welfare schemes for backward communities across the state.
