Punjab CM Health Scheme Ensures Immediate Treatment for Newborns, Children Without Financial Delays

With a rising number of newborns and young children receiving treatment under the Chief Minister Health Scheme, the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is ensuring that medical assistance begins without delay during critical health emergencies.

In Sri Muktsar Sahib, a one-year-old girl, Khwaish, was admitted to hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia and required immediate medical attention. Earlier, families in similar situations often had to arrange funds, complete paperwork, or wait for approvals before treatment could begin. However, under the Chief Minister Health Scheme, these barriers have been eliminated.

As the child already possessed a health card, treatment was started immediately at Deep Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Monica Garg without any advance payment. The family neither had to arrange funds nor undergo lengthy verification procedures, enabling doctors to initiate treatment at a crucial time.

Medical experts highlight that even minor delays in treating infants can lead to serious complications. Prompt access to healthcare ensured that the child received timely treatment and recovered safely.

Similar cases have also been reported from districts such as Sangrur and Mansa, where newborns requiring specialized care, including treatment for low birth weight and critical medical conditions, are receiving healthcare services without financial obstacles under the scheme. The increasing number of such cases reflects improved and faster access to healthcare services across Punjab.

Highlighting the impact of the initiative, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the scheme ensures that treatment is never delayed due to financial or administrative hurdles. He added that in cases involving young children, even a slight delay can have serious consequences, which the scheme effectively prevents.

The Chief Minister Health Scheme provides cashless health insurance coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family annually, allowing treatment at empanelled government and private hospitals. So far, more than 26 lakh health cards have been issued, enabling patients to access treatment across over 900 listed hospitals covering more than 2,300 medical packages.

The growing number of newborn and pediatric treatments under the scheme indicates a major shift toward faster and more accessible healthcare services, where treatment begins without financial hesitation. The Punjab Government continues to encourage residents to register for health cards at designated centers to avail cashless medical benefits under the scheme.
