Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Pays Tribute to Bhagat Singh, Questions Centre Over Bharat Ratna Delay

Bhagwant Mann Honors Martyrs, Questions Bharat Ratna Delay

Ferozepur : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday reiterated his government’s commitment to building a “Rangla Punjab” (Vibrant Punjab) inspired by the vision and ideals of the nation’s martyrs. The Chief Minister paid heartfelt tributes to revolutionary freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev on their Martyrs’ Day and questioned the Centre over the continued denial of the Bharat Ratna to the iconic revolutionaries.

Remembering the legacy of the freedom fighters, Mann said that India’s trajectory might have been significantly different if young and courageous leadership like Bhagat Singh had shaped the country during its early years of independence.

During the event, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of the Hussainiwala Heritage Complex, which will be developed at a cost of ₹24.99 crore under the Centre-funded Bharat Darshan Scheme.

Tribute to Revolutionary Legacy

Addressing a public gathering, Mann criticized certain political leaders for prioritizing personal recognition over honoring national heroes.

He remarked that some leaders had stadiums named after themselves while still alive, whereas revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev—who embraced martyrdom with courage for India’s freedom—had not received the recognition they truly deserved.

Mann stated that these young revolutionaries sacrificed their lives at an early age, but after independence, others claimed credit for freedom despite not participating in the struggle.

Demand for Greater Recognition

The Chief Minister further said that his government had to struggle even to rename the Mohali airport as Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, highlighting what he described as a lack of adequate national recognition for the martyrs.

Reaffirming his government’s resolve, Mann said Punjab would continue to honor the sacrifices of freedom fighters by promoting their ideals and working towards a progressive and prosperous state aligned with their vision.
