The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested a female clerk posted at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Sub-Division Office in Attari for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹18,000.
The action was taken by a team led by DSP Anoop Saini of the Vigilance Bureau’s Amritsar unit.
Bribe Taken to “Correct” Electricity Bill
According to officials, the accused clerk, identified as Navneet Kaur, allegedly demanded and accepted ₹18,000 from a complainant in exchange for correcting an electricity bill.
The complainant, Bhupinder Singh, is posted at the Amritsar Police Commissionerate office. He approached the Vigilance Bureau after the clerk allegedly demanded money to resolve his electricity billing issue.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance team laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount.
Investigation Underway
Officials confirmed that further investigation is ongoing, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The arrest highlights the Vigilance Bureau’s continued crackdown on corruption within government departments in Punjab.
